Red Hat OpenShift 4.22: virtual machines that move between clusters
Live migration of virtual machines between clusters, an AI assistant for developers and more control over development workspaces, on Kubernetes 1.35.
Red Hat OpenShift 4.22 is generally available. It is based on Kubernetes 1.35 and brings changes for teams that run virtual machines and containers side by side.
For operations teams
- Virtual machines move between clusters. Cross-cluster live migration of virtual machines is generally available, so you can move a running VM to another cluster for maintenance or rebalancing.
- More flexibility for virtual machines. Insert and eject a CD-ROM in a running VM, attach NVIDIA MIG vGPUs, and run on single-stack IPv6 networks.
- AI workloads. The JobSet controller for distributed jobs is generally available, and lazy image pulling in CRI-O speeds up the start of containers with large images.
For developers
- An AI assistant for developers. Red Hat OpenShift Lightspeed for developers is generally available in Red Hat Developer Hub.
- Remote development. VS Code Remote-SSH in Red Hat OpenShift Dev Spaces is generally available, and administrators can cap the CPU and memory of development workspaces.
For many of our customers, OpenShift is where modernised applications and existing virtual machines meet. We build and upgrade OpenShift platforms, move applications onto them and train your team as a Red Hat training centre. Read more about Red Hat OpenShift or talk to an expert.
