New IBM FlashSystem: storage that helps run itself
IBM FlashSystem 5600, 7600 and 9600, with the fifth-generation FlashCore Module and FlashSystem.ai agents that help administrators run, protect and document their storage.
IBM has introduced a new generation of FlashSystem: three models, a new FlashCore Module and a layer of AI agents called FlashSystem.ai. The systems have been generally available since 6 March 2026.
Three models
- IBM FlashSystem 5600 brings enterprise capabilities to a compact system for edge sites, branch offices and smaller data centres. IBM states up to 2.5 PB of effective capacity in 1U.
- IBM FlashSystem 7600 is for growing workloads such as large virtualised environments and analytics. IBM states up to 7.2 PB of effective capacity in 2U.
- IBM FlashSystem 9600 is for mission-critical workloads such as core banking, ERP and AI applications. IBM states up to 11.8 PB of effective capacity in 2U.
What changes for you
- More data in less space. The fifth-generation FlashCore Module holds up to 105 TB, and IBM states up to 40% better data efficiency than the previous generation.
- Ransomware spotted in under a minute. The drives detect anomalies such as ransomware patterns themselves, according to IBM in under 60 seconds in its tests.
- Help with daily operations. FlashSystem.ai monitors, diagnoses and suggests fixes across the data path, explains its reasoning, and learns from the administrator’s feedback.
- Audits with less effort. The system assembles evidence of configurations, protection policies and operational history. IBM says this halves the time spent on audit and compliance documentation.
- Data moves without downtime, including to storage arrays from other vendors.
The figures are IBM’s own and come from its tests under defined conditions.
